In general terms, if the optical power of the lens with a comparable diameter is higher than -/+3,00 diopters, the index will play a significant role and impact the edge thickness for a minus lens and the center thickness for a plus lens.

At the crossroads
We recently conducted a survey among spectacle wearers in the U.S. that affirmed while consumers are interested in lenses that provide a combination of features, they are unfamiliar with their choices. Results suggested that patients would benefit from further education on the part of their eyecare professional, as survey respondents reported a tendency to defer to an eyecare professional’s recommendation when selecting a lens material.

As I speak to Optics colleagues and patients they are all curious about the name Schoolvision. What is it and why is it called that?
I hear a comment very often – “Trivex lenses are expensive.” Are they? What would you say? I would re-phrase it differently and say that Trivex lenses are more expensive than standard 1.5 lenses. The reason is to be found in the chemistry of the material and the production process of Trivex lenses.
