Trivex material has a unique history. The original chemistry was developed by another company for use as helicopter windshields and fighter jet canopies for the military. This new polymer technology provided extreme impact resistance, amazing optical clarity and ultra-lightweight performance. In development for more than a decade by the military, the technology was subjected to rigorous ballistic and extreme performance testing.
The optical materials business of PPG Industries identified this technology and recognized its potential for use in spectacle lenses for consumer eyewear. PPG further adapted and refined the chemistry and casting process to deliver the requisite performance for spectacle lenses. In collaboration with optical industry partners, PPG introduced Trivex material in 2002 as a revolutionary new category of lens materials to spectacle wearers around the world.
As eye care professionals embrace Trivex material, PPG continues to develop the material and work with their partners to expand the availability of lens designs and formats. Today, a wide range of patients can benefit from the unique benefits of Trivex lenses that are offered by most of the leading global lens manufacturers.
